The idea
“The initial idea for a piece often comes from a personal emotion. The design develops as I meditate on this feeling and contemplate how it can be expressed through form. The creative process is fluid, one idea can metamorphose into another. Subsequently I sketch these ideas to record thoughts”.
The genesis
“Then I experiment with different ideas of form and texture by modeling in wax, conjuring a design that is the manifestation of this emotional moment in time. It is important that this piece is perfectly executed, as every tiny mark, or impression on the wax will be seen in the metal cast”.
The final process
“When I am satisfied with the result, this blueprint, or archetypal form goes to the foundry. Here my wax sculpture becomes a jewel through the lost wax casting technique. In the end it is sent to the workshop where it is polished and finished into a tangible, physical version of that initial emotion”.
